How Things Work: ROBOTIC HAND

Wondersaurus says:

We love How Things Work: Robotic Hand for its fascinating blend of biology and mechanics, turning the science of how our own hands move into a hands-on STEM build. Strapping on or operating the articulated finger mechanism and watching it curl, grasp, and release makes the connection between tendons, movement, and machine feel wonderfully tangible. It’s the kind of project that makes children aged 8+ feel like real biomechanical engineers, recreating the incredible design of a human hand with string, levers, and their own clever fingers.

Description:

Kids construct the hand’s joints and route the “tendons” (strings) through each phalanx, then pull to make individual fingers flex and the whole hand grip. Whether they’re picking up a pencil, grabbing a small toy, or just flexing each digit one at a time, every motion is a satisfying lesson in how muscles and tendons create movement in our own bodies. They can experiment with tension, test what the hand can grasp, and wonder at the elegant engineering we take for granted. With step-by-step illustrated instructions, quality materials, and a durable, reusable design, the Robotic Hand turns anatomy into an interactive discovery a brilliant pick for curious minds who love understanding how living machines really work.
