First Words Yrs K to 2

Basic Skills ‘First Words’ has been created for children who want to write words at the pre-school or Kindergarten stage.

It is also useful to reinforce reading and writing skills for those in Year 1.

The book follows a simple format:

• One page presents a choice of six words in a box, to be written under the correct picture.
• Then follows a page of revision using the six words from the previous page.

Towards the end of the book, the format changes and the child writes the missing words from sentences, most words having been used previously.

“I have mainly chosen words that can be sounded out with the use of single vowel and consonant sounds that blend together.” – Peter Howard

More difficult words made with vowel diphthongs are practised in my ‘First Phonics’ and ‘First Phonic Reading’ books in the Basic Skills Series.
